PGA Panel at Cannes 2015

Posted By STU LEVY, Thursday, April 23, 2015
Come join your fellow Guild members for an exciting panel at Cannes, brought to you by the Royal Film Commission of Jordan along with the PGA!  Also, if you're interested in speaking on the panel please contact your International Committee (ic@producersguild.org).

Date and time:  May 17th @ 2:30 pm

Length: 1 hr plus 15 min Q&A

Location:  Jordan Pavilion, Cannes

"Producing Without Borders: The role of the Producer in the global film arena"

The RFC and The PGA are proud to announce an exciting panel discussion with a group of international producers, attorneys, filmmakers, and distributors coming together to share their knowledge and experience on how to best partner up and collaborate with each other to launch a successful project. International film projects demand careful cross border planning and preparation from financing, clearance and copyright issues, location management, talent participation, distribution commitments, and local knowledge of what content has the best chance of success with each respective territory.

The role of the producer is the vital glue that holds it all together. As more and more projects are "packaged," how do we define a successful package internationally? Our panelists will discuss an array of necessary tools to navigate a cross platform media project, whether the ultimate outlet for the story is film, television, or the web.

Moderated by Kayvan Mashayekh, MENA Representative/PGA

Confirmed panelists* (as of April 23rd)- more to come
Craig Emanuel, Loeb & Loeb
John Hadity, Entertainment Partners

Taipei Film Academy (Dec 2014)

Posted By STU LEVY, Saturday, February 28, 2015

The first week of December 2014 was exciting for PGA International, working with the PGA Diversity Committee to deliver a one-week "Producers Workshop" in Taipei, Taiwan.

Sponsored and organized by the Taipei Film Commission, the "Taipei Film Academy" was an inaugural event that featured 4 PGA teachers (Vance Van Petten, Deb Calla, Charles Howard, and Stu Levy) teaching to approximately 70 producing professionals.

The trip included location scouts, local cuisine, and numerous social activities in addition to 4 1/2 days of intense courses.

This is the 2nd overseas iteration of the PGA's Diversity Workshop, the first being in Amman, Jordan.

PGA new affiliate: Production Guild of Great Britain (PGGB)

Production Guild inks partnerships

By Andreas Wiseman

December 8, 2014

http://uat.screendaily.com/news/production/production-guild-inks-partnerships/5080782.article

Guild partners with Producers Guild of America, Guild of Italy

The Production Guild of Great Britain (PGGB) has signed bi-lateral agreements with the Producers Guild of America (PGA) and the Producers Guild of Italy (AGPCI) in a bid to foster co-operation between the organisations.

The agreements focus on creating relationships for information sharing and exchanging ideas in film and television production but the guilds are also looking at facilitating official delegations to each other’s countries.

The memorandum of understanding agreements were signed by PGGB chief executive Alison Small with PGA executive director Vance Pan Petten and separately with Martha Capello, president of the AGPCI.

Alison Small said: “These agreements mark the first step towards establishing closer working relationships between our respective guilds to the mutual benefit of our work in supporting production personnel. International partnerships underpin a huge amount of film and television production and are very much a part of the day-to-day business so it makes sense to explore opportunities to share ideas and experience.”

“Today, storytellers are creating content for a global audience,” added PGA executive director Vance Van Petten, “and frequently producing that content on a global scale. International partnerships like these not only lay the groundwork for information exchange and new production opportunities, but facilitate creative insights into the shared nature of story across cultures and marketplaces.”

Based at Pinewood Studios with more than 800 members The Production Guild of Great Britain provides industry advice, employment opportunities, networking and seminars.

Hawaii International Film Festival 2014

Posted By Kent Matsuoka, Friday, November 21, 2014
Updated: Saturday, November 22, 2014

As befitting its position at the crossroads of the Asia-Pacific region, the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) has developed into a truly international festival with local Hawaiian filmmakers joining filmmakers from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, and even European features from Belgium France, Germany, Israel, Ukraine, and others through its Eurocinema component.

HIFF is also committed to developing and introducing aspiring local filmmakers to some of the visiting industry veterans, and founded the Creative Lab in 2012 in partnership with the State of Hawaii Creative Industries Division, the PGA, SAG, and the WGA to run concurrently with the festival and throughout the year.

How could the PGA International Committee resist an opportunity to meet with such a diverse mix of international filmmakers even if it wasn't in the tropical paradise of Hawaii?

This year, our very own Antoine de Cazotte was invited to speak about his journey from a young boy in France to producer of the Academy Award wining film “The Artist”. Antoine participated in a Q&A following a screening of “The Artist”, a lunch with Creative Lab participants, a lecture with University of Hawaii Film Students, recognition as the Vilcek Foundation's featured filmmaker, and a keynote address moderated by PGA member and Creative Lab Director Michael Palmieri.

He joined other distinguished guests such as actress Marcia Gay Harden, writer Lucy Alibar ("Beasts of the Southern Wild"), Jerome Pailliard of Marche du Film, and PGA members Bernie Su, Chris Lee, Kent Matsuoka, and Roger Corman whom was honored with a lifetime achievement award.
