Comedy has been a mainstay of original web content, from The Fine Brothers to The Daily Grace to Ask a Ninja, among the multitude of viral video stars who have redefined the genre since the mid-‘90s era of ‘webisodes.’

New York has been a hotbed for web comedy producers, working in tandem with multichannel networks (MCNs) that include My Damn Channel and YouTube Next’s Barely Political as well as cable networks from Comedy Central to MTV Networks. Renowned improve troupe Upright Citizens Brigade has both provided talent for web comedy series as well as creating an online presence – streaming performances – for years, while New York’s independent comedy producers and performers have used the web to create new voices for a range of brands and film/TV producers seeking fresh talent.

The Producers Guild of America New Media Council East invites you to start the new year off on a lighter note, as we look at some of New York’s leading web comedy producers.
