AVID MEDIA COMPOSER TRAINING 2.0
Two-Day Intensive Workshop
Saturday & Sunday, May 21 & 22
Registration is for BOTH days
- Saturday from 10:00am - 6:00pm, with an hour for walkaway lunch
- Sunday from 1:00pm - 7:00pm
New York Film Academy

This two-day intensive workshop is geared towards participants who already have a basic working knowledge of Avid and are interested in building upon those skills. Participants will learn to work with audio, multi-cam clips, color, and effects. This class will help producers learn to edit sequences in Avid beyond creating just a basic string out.
Please Note: participants should already be familiar with Avid’s interface and know how to create a stringout. This class is not intended for Avid beginners.

The curriculum will include:
Day 1: Saturday 10:00am - 6:00pm
Goals:
- Review Avid’s workflow
- Sync the sound to the video of multiple clips
- Layer sound tracks over scene accurately
Topics:
Create the Avid project
- Create new project
- Create sequence and additional tracks
- Explore targeting and patching tracks
Organizing sound
- Voiceover and SFX bins
- Audio tracks to be synced
Working with audio
- Sync audio and organize clips
- Choose selects and mark them
- Create rough cut
- Identify track for VO, SFX, music
- Layer and mix audio tracks using Audio Editing workspace
Audio editing technique
- L-cuts
- J-cuts
- Cutting to the beat of music
Day 2: Sunday 1:00pm - 7:00pm
Goals:
- Explore multi-cam editing
- Color correct the entire film
- Work with basic effects, including titles
- Export two versions of the film
Topics:
Editing in multi-cam
- Select and group clips
- Place group clip in appropriate area of the film
- Determine how to assign audio
- Explore multi-cam workspace
Working with color
- Examine HSL vs Curve approach
- Create and save desirable color grade
- Apply to all applicable clips
Apply necessary effects
- Master Quick Transition and how to change settings
- Apply filter using Effect Mode
- Apply filter using Effects Editing
- Create and save title using title tool
Master codec and file usage
- Video: H.264 vs Apple ProRes 4444
- Audio: Linear PCM vs AAC
- Export both versions
