U.S. abortion clinics are fighting to survive. Since 2010, hundreds of laws regulating abortion clinics have been passed by conservative state legislatures, particularly in the South. These restrictions, known as TRAP laws (or Targeted Regulations of Abortion Providers), masquerade as regulations designed to protect women’s health, but in fact have a singular purpose: to ban abortion by saddling clinics with onerous regulations that are exceedingly difficult and costly to satisfy. As the battle heads to the U.S. Supreme Court in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, TRAPPED follows the plaintiff and legal team leading the case as well as the struggles of the clinic workers and lawyers fighting to keep abortion safe and legal for millions of American women, many of whom are poor and uninsured.
TRAPPED's release coincides with events that could affect
reproductive rights for generations to come.

LEGISLATION
288 new restrictions to
abortion care have been
enacted by states since
2010. The laws ban
certain procedures,
regulate providers and
even limit insurance
coverage.

SUPREME COURT
The Supreme Court will
soon decide Whole
Women's Health v.
Hellerstedt — a case that
argues the
constitutionality of a far-
reaching Texas law
that dramatically restricts
abortion access. |

PUBLIC OPINION
According to a recent
Politico poll, roughly 70
percent of registered
American voters believe
the government should
not restrict abortion
access.
