TheWrap - New York to Loan Upstate Fund $400K for Digital Theater Conversions

Many independent theaters have been unable to make the costly conversion to digital technologies.     In an effort to save many of these small theaters from shutting down, New York state is making $400,000 available to the North Country Regional Economic Development Council to assist in digital film conversions for small theaters in the northern part of the state


"So far, 4,499 out of the country‚Äôs 5,670 locations have converted to digital and 36,105 of its 40,045 screens, a spokesman from the National Association of Theater Owners told TheWrap. Studios have been advocating the change for years, because digital distribution allows them to save thousands of dollars in print fees."
