...in best musical or comedy we have "Birdman," "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "Into the Woods," "Pride" and "St. Vincent." "Birdman" is not only the presumptive Globe winner here, but the only nominee with a (slim) chance of taking all the marbles at the Academy Awards; its only risk is, if it doesn't win a Globe in this category, that chance may disappear.

The best drama race is as wide-open as it currently is in the Oscars, with "Boyhood," "Foxcatcher," "The Imitation Game," "Selma," and "The Theory of Everything" all contending.

Likeliest choices? The already-honored "Boyhood," the predictably classy "The Imitation Game" and the moving "Selma." Acknowledging that last movie also gives foreign journalists the happy chance to give Americans a lecture, which may give "Selma" an edge — but "Boyhood" is the best film here, and a win would enhance its front-runner Oscar status...
