THE PRODUCERS GUILD OF AMERICA HONORS TOM ROTHMAN WITH THE 2017 MILESTONE AWARD

LOS ANGELES (October 25, 2016) – The Producers Guild of America (PGA) announced today that Tom Rothman, Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group, will be honored with the Guild’s 2017 Milestone Award. The award will be presented to Mr. Rothman at the 28th Annual Producers Guild Awards ceremony on January 28, 2017 at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles.
Producers Guild Awards Chairs Donald De Line (THE ITALIAN JOB; I LOVE YOU, MAN) and Amy Pascal (the upcoming SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING; THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER’S WEB) stated, "Our industry has benefitted immensely from Tom's instincts, tenacity and vision. From his championing of independent storytellers early in his career to his nurturing of studio films on an epic scale, Tom's passion for movies has been one of the unstoppable creative engines of our business."
Rothman said, “This is the highest honor of my professional life and I am humbled and grateful to be included among such august company. Coming from the outstanding organization that is the PGA, it is indeed praise from high quarters. My enormous thanks to Donald, Amy, the Board and the entire membership. I have no current plans to do so, but I could now die happy.”
The Milestone Award is the PGA’s most prestigious honor, recognizing an individual or team who has made historic contributions to the entertainment industry. In the past, the Guild has paid tribute to such industry leaders as Clint Eastwood, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Steven Spielberg, Sherry Lansing, Ron Meyer, Bob & Harvey Weinstein, Alan Horn, Bob Iger, and 2016 recipient Jim Gianopulos, among others.

Thomas E. Rothman is Chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group, where he oversees all of the studio’s motion picture production and distribution activities worldwide, including Columbia Pictures, TriStar Pictures, Screen Gems, Sony Pictures Animation, Sony Pictures Imageworks, and Sony Pictures Classics. Rothman joined Sony Pictures in late 2013 as Chairman of TriStar Productions.
Previously, Rothman spent 18 years at Fox, serving as Chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, from 2000 through 2012. Together with Jim Gianopulos, he oversaw all of the studio’s filmmaking operations and, starting in 2009, Twentieth Century Fox Television as well. Many of those years set profit records for Fox.
In 1994, Rothman founded and served as President of Fox Searchlight Pictures. Prior to that, he was President of Worldwide Production for the Samuel Goldwyn Company, and Executive Vice President of Columbia Pictures.
During his more than 30 year film career, Rothman has worked on over 400 motion pictures, including the two highest grossing films in cinematic history, TITANIC and AVATAR. Films made under his purview have grossed over $50 billion in worldwide box office, earned more than 150 Academy Award® nominations and won four Best Picture Oscars®.
Rothman is a member of the Board of Directors of the Sundance Institute and the American Film Institute (emeritus). He also serves on the Board of Brown University (emeritus), California Institute of the Arts, and the Priceline Group. He has been appointed by President Obama to the National Council of the Arts.
