Message from the Executive Director

As this will be my last message of the year, allow me to share, on behalf of the Guild’s staff, our warmest holiday wishes with you and your families, and our hopes for a happy new year.
Of course, one thing that would guarantee a happy 2008 would be a swift end to the WGA strike. And while we have held a rigorous internal debate over the options available to us, our Guild’s Boards have decided that the best way to facilitate a settlement is for us to refrain from injecting ourselves into their process. However, I do have a piece of good news to share with you all.
The WGA has recently made new headlines with their statement of intent to picket the upcoming Golden Globe events. It is with great relief that I can announce that because our Producers Guild Awards event is not being licensed for telecast, the WGA has confirmed that our 2008 Awards event on February 2nd will not be picketed, and your attendance at our event will not necessitate the crossing of any WGA picket lines.
I sincerely hope that on February 2nd, you’ll be able to join us in setting aside our strike-related stress for one evening, and come together with the rest of your Guild to celebrate the profession of which we are all so proud.
Once again, happy holidays to you all, and best wishes for a productive new year.
