Membership Requirements

To join the PGA, an applicant must have received on-screen/on-air credits and performed the job functions for at least one of the capacities listed under the section "The Producing Team" (see below) within the past seven (7) years, as indicated below:

Film: At least two (2) feature films that have had broad domestic or verifiable international theatrical release, subject to PGA Council requirements.

Television: At least two (2) long-form television programs (MOW's, movies, etc.) or thirteen (13) weeks of episodic or twenty-six (26) weeks of non-episodic programs that have been marketed broadly in the domestic territory.

New Media: At least (2) productions that have had broad domestic or verifiable internation consumer release on any of the following platforms: DVD, CD-ROM, Game Console, Wireless, Interactive/Enhanced Television, Internet/Broadband.  (Additional requirements relative to distribution and reach are listed at www.pganewmedia.org.)

Other: Recommended for membership by the Membership Committee due to sufficient equivalent production experience that justifies membership as part of the producing team.

Credits for commercials, promos, PSA's, infomercials, music videos, student films, foreign-airing shows and local broadcasts are not currently eligible for consideration.  In addition, membership is approved by the Board of Directors.  All applicants must have actually performed the duties reflected by the credit received (as they are known within the entertainment industry).  And, their qualifications must be verified by one referring PGA member or two industry references with direct knowledge of the applicant's production experience.


THE PRODUCING TEAM

The Producing Team consists of all those whose interdependency and support of each other are necessary for the creation of motion pictures and television programs. The producing team is comprised of Producers, all those on the career path to becoming Producers, and other team members including:

  • Producers / Executive Producers
  • Co-Executive Producers
  • Supervising Producers
  • Co-Producers
  • Visual Effects Producers & Coordinators
  • New Media Executive Producers& Producers
  • Associate Producers
  • Segment Producers
  • Production Supervisors & Production Managers
  • Post-Production Supervisors & Managers
  • Production & Post-Production Coordinators

As a unit, the producing team is responsible for the art, craft and science of production in the entertainment industry.

PGA MEMBERSHIP STRUCTURE

The PGA now represents the entire Producing Team and has three Councils, the Producers Council, the AP Council and the New Media Council.

Producers Council - Membership is comprised of producers who are responsible for a majority of all producing functions throughout the entire production of a project:

  • Executive Producers
  • Co-Executive Producers
  • Supervising Producers
  • Producers
  • Co-Producers
  • Line Producers

Membership in the Producers Council requires at least two (2) Producers Council credits as listed above. 

AP Council - Membership is comprised of producing team members who fulfill one or more of the essential functions of film or television production.
  • Associate Producers
  • Segment/Field Producers 
  • Production Supervisors & Managers
  • Post Production Supervisors & Managers
  • Production & Post Production Coordinators
  • Visual Effects Producers & Coordinators

Membership in the AP Council requires at least two (2) AP Council credits within one of the categories listed above (e.g. two (2) credits as segment producer). 

New Media Council - Those that have served as a Producer or Executive Producer on a new media project, as defined by the PGA's New Media Council Board of Directors (please refer to their website at www.pganewmedia.org).



MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION FEE
There is a $35 non-refundable application processing fee, which must accompany the application, in addition to Initiation Fees and Dues (outlined below).



INITIATION FEES
  • Producers Council:   $725
  • AP Council (except Coordinators*):  $350
  • New Media Council:   $350
The PGA prefers payment of the entire Initiation Fee with the application. If necessary, Initiation Fees may be paid in three installments over three years (i.e., one-third is payable per year).  However, at least the first installment (one-third) must accompany the application.

*Deferment for Coordinators:  Coordinators can defer payment of the Initiation Fee until they qualify for an upgrade to a higher category.



DUES
  • Producers Council: $175 payable upon applying (annual rate: $350).
  • AP Council: $75 payable upon applying (annual rate: $150).
  • New Media Council: $75 payable upon applying (annual rate: $150).

Dues are subsequently billed semi-annually (payable January 1st and July 1st).




MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS
MEMBERSHIP IS NOT AUTOMATIC.  PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ENTIRE PROCESS GENERALLY TAKES ABOUT 30-90 DAYS FROM RECEIPT OF YOUR APPLICATION.

After you have sent in your Membership Application (see below to obtain), here's how the process works:

  • First, your application is checked to make sure you've sent in all the information and items requested.  Applications that are incomplete are returned immediately.  
  • Then all your materials are passed on to the Membership Committee to verify your credits and job duties. 
  • After the Committee makes a determination on your eligibility for membership, their findings are forwarded to the Board of Directors for ratification.

To help you, here is how to calculate how much to send in with your application:

  • Producers Council Applicants:  $935 - Non-refundable Application Fee ($35) + Initiation Fee ($725) + Dues ($175)

    AP Council Applicants:  $460 - Non-refundable Application Fee ($35) + Initiation ($350) + Dues ($75)
  • Coordinator Applicants:  $110 - Non-refundable Application Fee ($35) + Dues ($75)
  • New Media Council Applicants: $460 - Non-refundable Application Fee ($35) + Initiation ($350) + Dues ($75)
After you are approved for membership you will then start receiving mailings and emailings concerning PGA activities as well as our "Produced By" magazine and monthly calendar.  You will also be eligible to attend PGA seminars and screenings and all other PGA events.  In addition, you will be added to the annually published Roster, and granted access to our on-line database.

If you are not accepted, all monies, except the non-refundable application fee, will be returned to you.
