The PGA New Media Council East Presents...

Monday, October 6 at 7:00pm
Theresa Lang Auditorium
The New School
55 West 13th St. at 6th Ave.

As interactive TV has evolved into a market that includes apps for Smart TV, the second screen industry has risen to a prominent place for production companies, networks, and device manufacturers who want to engage viewers through companion content – whether quizzes, games, statistics, premium segments or archival footage – that can be activated through smartphones, tablets, and game consoles. Once the province of participation TV, largely through SMS voting, the second screen market now involves producers of every kind, whether in sports, news, reality, episodic, or competition shows.

Producers now have a myriad number of ways to enhance the core on-screen property, and create more persistent interaction with fans, with second screen apps, which can be used to replace the TV remote (Samsug; Roku); discover new content (NextGuide, BuddyTV); enhance the viewing experience (HBO Go, MLB AtBat), or share via social media (Beamly, Viggle). Now, with 5G mobile networks on the horizon, and greater syncing capabilities between large displays and mobile devices, the second screen becomes a critical element in determining how shows are performing with audiences in a TV everywhere world.

This session will include leading second screen app producers and network producers who will discuss the adoption of new interactive elements for shows.
