2018 FAQ


Producers Guild of America Make Your Mark Weekend Shorts Contest FAQ

The official rules are important and may answer your questions.  Please be sure to read through them thoroughly here http://www.producersguild.org/?page=MYM_Rules

Q:  Do you have to be a member of the PGA to enter?

A: NO - You do not need to be a member of the Producers Guild of America (PGA) to enter.

Q: Where does one have to reside to be able to enter the competition?

The competition is open to anyone in the world over the age of 18-years.   

Q:  May I enter with a co-producer?

A: Yes, you may enter as a team (up to 2 people total).  For more details, please go to: MakeYourMarkCompetition.com.

Q: The rules say the cutoff time for the upload is 8PM EDT/5PM PDT. Is that when the upload has to begin or the upload needs to be finished?

A: The upload needs to be completed by 8PM EDT/5PM PDT. Please plan accordingly. Any additional questions you have regarding uploading should be addressed to http://www.imdb.com/helpdesk/wabfestspecific

Q: What happens if multiple participants are trying to upload at the same time and the server is overloaded so that your upload does not finish until after the deadline has expired?

Q: How do you confirm that your registration is complete?

A: Entrants will receive an auto reply acknowledgement confirmation for their submission.  Please contact http://www.imdb.com/helpdesk/wabfestspecific with any other registration questions.

Q: You’ve registered for the competition and have a few questions.

·      Can you have raw materials for props set aside?

·      Can you have volunteers assigned and ready to go?

·      Can you have a team assigned and ready to go?

·      Can you already have possible locations scouted and ready?

·      Do the end credits count toward the time limit?

 

A: All of this information can be found in the competition rules.

It’s up to you what you prepare prior to the commencement of the competition.

The rules also say that end credits do not count toward the time limit, but they must be less than 60 seconds in duration.  The opening credits do count towards the time limit.

Q: Will you be making available any agreement with SAG-AFTRA for using union performers in a short film for this competition?

A: Please refer to MakeYourMarkCompetition.com for appropriate forms and details.

Q: Can you use pre-existing music in your short?

A: Pre-existing music is allowed in your project as long as you have secured the requisite licenses (sync, master, etc.).

Q: When do we submit the Entry Agreement and Certification Statement?

A: Upon submission of the secure online screener by 8PM EDT/5 PM PDT on Sunday, August 27, 2017, to WithoutABox.com, please email a copy of the signed Entry Agreement and Certification Statement directly to: MakeYourMarkCompetition@gmail.com.  Please include your submission tracking number in the subject line of your email.  Entrants will receive an auto reply acknowledgement confirmation for their submission.

Q: When will you be notifying the 10 Semi-Finalists?

A: Semi-finalists will be notified on or about October 23, 2017.

Q: Is there any recognition for the Semi-Finalists?

A:  Yes.  There will be an Awards Show held in association with New FilmMakers LA, on Saturday, November 11, 2017 in Los Angeles.  The 10 Semi-Final short films will be screened and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prizes will be presented along with the 7-Honorable Mentions.  There will be a pre-screening reception and a post-screening party.

Q: Can I submit my Weekend Short to other film festivals?

Yes, entrants may distribute, use or otherwise publicly display their Entry after October 25, 2017.

Q:  If I am a semi-finalist or a finalist, will I retain ownership rights to the short film that I submitted?  For example, can I submit it to film festivals and use it for my portfolio?

A: Yes, you will retain ownership of the original 3-5 minute short film that you submit for the contest.


HOW TO REGISTER AND COMPETE:

1) Click the WAB button below (or go here) and create a Withoutabox Project titled “Make Your Mark” with your team’s information (cast, crew, etc. if available)

2) "Submit" (i.e. Register) your project via Withoutabox and pay the entry fee by August 22.

3) Complete the following forms located at https://www.producersguild.org/page/MYM_Rules.

a) Certification Statement
b) Release Agreement
c) Entry Agreement
d) If using SAG Actors, please also complete the SAG forms available on the page.

4) Email completed forms, as PDF document, directly to makeyourmark@producersguild.org. Please include all forms on the same e-mail and include your team's name in the subject line.

5) On Friday August 24, 2018 all Entrants will receive the same assignment and be given exactly 51 hours to make and submit a film/video. The assignment will be emailed and posted on the web site www.MakeYourMarkCompetition.com commencing at 5:00PM EDT/2:00PM PDT on Friday August 24, 2018.

6)MAKE YOUR FILM!

7) Your completed film must be uploaded as a screener to Withoutabox by 8:00PM EDT/5:00PM PDT on August 26, 2018.

8) Winners will be posted online at www.MakeYourMarkCompetition.com after the awards show on November 10, 2018.
